The media your teen consumes can change her life

Your teenage daughter is consuming more media through more channels than ever before. How is this information affecting her self image?

  • 20 years ago the average fashion model weighed 8% less than the average woman. Today she weighs 23% less.
  • 3 out of 4 teenage girls feel depressed, guilty and shameful after spending 3 minutes leafing through a fashion magazine.
  • There was a 600% increase in breast augmentation procedures in girls aged 18 and under between 1997 and 2007.

These statistics can be found in this excellent new infographic called ‘Cause and effect: How the media you consume can change your life’.
